Exploring school options for next year? Check out Friends Community School. Friends Community School is a K-8 Quaker progressive school that thoughtfully guides young children through adolescence. Located on 17 acres in nearby College Park, FCS offers a diverse and inclusive community, a commitment to educating the whole child, and a curriculum that emphasizes inquiry-based and hands-on learning. On any given day at FCS, you’ll witness the many ways learning and growing happen inside and outside the classroom. Kindergarten students might explore “the me you cannot see”, while others in the Lower School release and track monarch butterflies they’ve raised, learn about legislation and the United States government, rehearse for a musical performance, or study the guinea fowl that roam the grounds. Middle schoolers, meanwhile, might do a deep-dive into map studies, hone their annotation and writing skills, discuss the importance of empathy, or calculate speed and acceleration in one of our science labs.
If you are interested in considering FCS for your child, join FCS students, parents, teachers, and administrators for an upcoming Admissions event to learn more. Event details and registration, along with information about on-campus tours, can be found on the school’s Admissions/Visit FCS page of their website, www.friendscommunityschool.org There is a virtual admissions information session on Tuesday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m. and an on-campus open house on Thursday, January 12, at 9:00 a.m. The FCS regular application deadline is Friday, January 13, 2023.
