Introduction to Quaker Faith & Practice

Introduction to Quaker Faith & Practice is for all at BFM who are relatively new, or wish a refresher on Quakerism. The Ministry & Worship Committee is offering a 6-session series, meeting  at 9:00 a.m. on the second and fourth Sundays of January, February and March. 

  • This will be in-person and also via Zoom. All are welcome, even if you are unable to come to all sessions.
  • Please register by contacting the BFM Contact Us form.. Once you are registered, we can fill you in with more information, such as the location of the class, readings, and the teachers.  Also, please let us know if you will need childcare. Here are the dates and topics:

- January 14: Introduction: We will discuss the foundation of Quaker faith and spiritual practice, including concepts of the Divine (including The Light, the Inner Teacher, and more), the foundational idea that revelation is continuing, and the radical idea that there is that of God in every person. 

- January 28: Quaker faith and social justice: We will discuss the foundations for Quakers being involved in the cause of social justice over their 350+ year history, including the testimonies. We will also discuss the current issues Quakers and those of us in Bethesda Friends Meeting are addressing. 

- February 11: Quaker Universalism and Quaker Christianity

- February 25: Quaker worship and vocal ministry: 

- March 10: Seekers and Finders

- March 24:  Quaker Process
