Comparative Religions: Great Minds of the East

  • September 17, 2024
  • 7:00 PM
  • via Zoom

The Comparative Religions class starts a new course in September which will go through May - Great Minds of the Eastern Intellectual Tradition - 36 lectures by Professor Grant Hardy of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, through The Great Courses. This is a survey course which begins with the Vedas and Upanishads and ends with Sun Yat-sen and Mao Tsedong, covering Iran, India, China, Tibet, Korea, and Japan. We meet weekly on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom for a half-hour lecture followed by a half-hour discussion. All are welcome. If just a few topics seem interesting, you are welcome to just come for those.

The first four topics are: Life's Great Questions - Asian Perspectives; The Vedas and Upanishads - The Beginning; Mahavira and Jainism - Extreme Nonviolence; The Buddha - The Middle Way.

Use our Contact Us form to get the Zoom link, or see your email bulletin. Each session is self-contained, so you can attend any session.
