In Fall 2025, the Comparative Religions class will start a 36-week lecture survey of Sacred Texts from around the world and through history. The course is taught by Professor Grant Hardy through The Great Courses.

  • We meet weekly on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom for a half-hour lecture followed by a half-hour discussion.
  • All are welcome. You can drop in for the topics that seem interesting without committing to the whole series.
  • See a summary below, and to see which specific texts are reviewed each month, please see your bulletin or newsletter.
  • For more details and for the Zoom link, look in the weekly Bulletin or use our Contact Us form

--The DVDs for the previous lecture series have been donated to the BFM library and are available for loan.

--Humanity's library of sacred writings is a huge canon that includes many of the most influential books ever written (such as the Hebrew and Christian bibles and the Quran of Islam, as well as sacred writings such as the Hindu Vedas, the Buddhist Sutras, Daoism's Daodejing, the Analects of Confucius, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, and Baha'i. This course takes you into the body of sacred writings that have played a fundamental role in human culture and history, including the scriptures of seven major religions and nine smaller faiths, such as the ancient Egyptian and Mayan societies.
